As a family owned and operated business, we take pride in our history. After retiring from the United States Marine Corps in 1971, our father George Smith, along with his wife Zylsa, started World Art Gallery which specialized in custom picture framing. In 2000, after our parents' retirement, we decided to expand the business to include quality furniture. The philosophy, integrity, and devotion to excellence that gave World Art Gallery its reputation was carried over to Carriage House Furniture Co. Our Story
A visit to Carriage House Furniture Co. is always a unique experience. We are a retail furniture store that specializes in solid wood, American made furniture. We sell inventory from our showroom floor which allows us to schedule for immediate delivery. Our showroom is continuously changing with new pieces arriving weekly. Our design team is constantly searching for and providing furniture from manufacturers that offer unique, well-crafted pieces that set us apart from the rest. About twenty-five percent of our Amish crafted furniture is designed in-house. We have a large selection of solid wood, heirloom quality furniture and upholstery handcrafted in the USA at prices that are affordable and competitive.
Meet The Team
Dora Smith Compton
Owner & Interior Designer
Dora was born in Watertown, South Dakota during her father's tour as a USMC recruiter. She and her brother Rick started Carriage House Furniture Co. in 2000. She specializes in color and fabric selections and loves helping clients plan existing spaces or new construction. Because Dora lives in an older home with small rooms, she is skilled at designing for small spaces. As much as she loves interior design, Dora is also passionate about gardening and landscape design. Rick Smith
Owner & Customer Service Specialist
Rick was born in Watertown, South Dakota during his father's tour as a USMC recruiter. Rick grew up in the family business, specializing in custom picture framing. He spent a summer with a family friend refinishing furniture and through this, he developed a love and an interest for it. Rick handles customer service requests and designs custom furniture for the business and for customers. Along with his love for furniture, Rick also likes looking at cars and spending time with his wife Pam.
Pam Smith
Owner & Office Manager
Born in Jacksonville and raised in Stella, Pam is no stranger to the North Carolina area. She graduated from Swansboro High School and worked for an attorney before joining the family business. Pam is married to Rick Smith and she has been in the family business for over 30 years. As CFO, Pam manages the office at Carriage House Furniture Co. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with her family and watching Netflix.

Brianna Tates
Interior Designer & Store Manager
Brianna is a native of Virginia. Her father was stationed at Camp Lejeune and that is what initially brought her to North Carolina. After graduating from Liberty University in 2016 with a Bachelor's degree in Interior Design, Brianna went to work for Ethan Allen in California. After a year, she moved back to the North Carolina area and started working for Carriage House Furniture Company. Brianna is experienced in interior design, renovation, and home staging and she loves creating beautiful and functional spaces for clients. She also specializes in website design. When she's not designing, Brianna enjoys singing, dancing, blogging and spending time with her husband and their pup Oreo.
Johnny Valadez
Delivery & Warehouse
Johnny is originally from Texas and he joined the military in 2003 after he graduated from Sweetwater High School. His first duty station was 29 Palms, CA and then he was relocated to Camp Lejeune, NC. After he completed his tour with 1st Battalion Eighth Marines, he was honorably discharged in 2012. A few years later, Johnny came to work for Carriage House Furniture Co. In his spare time, he enjoys gardening and spending time with his family.
